(Blackfish) Director: Gabriela Cowperthwaite, USA, 2013, original version / Czech and English subtitles, 83 min

A visit to SeaWorld can make for a pleasant Sunday afternoon. Trained killer whales leap into the air, smack their fins or carry the trainer on their nose. Children enthusiastically applaud. But when the animal unexpectedly pulls the trainer under water, people look on in horror. Suddenly it's the animal that's in control. This riveting film by Gabriela Cowperthwaite looks at mankind's longstanding effort to conquer the animal kingdom. Through the story of the killer whale Tilikum, the director examines the psyche of animals kept in the frustrating conditions of the global network of SeaWorld water parks, which has been a profitable business for some 50 years. But it does not pay to conceal the risks that trainers face each day.
