A premiere screening of Urbanized
On Saturday, May 26, Světozor will host a ceremonial premiere of a unique documentary about the design of cities Urbanized by Gary Hustwit. The screening will start at 7pm, and it takes place within the reSITE festival taking place next week, during which the world's leading voices in the field of sustainable urban design, urban planning and architecture will be in Prague to discuss the question: Can collaborative design improve waterfront public spaces and mobility, and catalyze economic development? The reSITE Festival and Conference invites city planners, engineers, economists and architects from New York, Copenhagen, Rotterdam and Paris to debate this central question. After the screening, a discussion with top architects and city designers will take place: Alexandros E. Washburn (NYC), Craig Dykers (Oslo/NYC), Matúš Vallo (Bratislava), David Chisholm (Prague) and Adam Gebrian (Praha). Both the film and the post-screening discussion will be English Friendly! We’d like to announce that Světozor has started its own video-on-demand rental services through AEROVOD. Now you can watch some of the films featured in Světozor online and do it legally! First up is Alois Nebel (NOT English friendly). In the near future, AEROVOD will offer a wider selection of films. Days of European Film 2012

On Thursday, April 12, another annual edition of the traditional Days of European Film will start in Světozor. The festival will last till April 19 and will introduce the best of European films from last couple years. Love and Bruises

Don't miss the public premiere of Love and Bruises, on Wednesday April 4, at 8 pm. Excellent young French actor Tahar Rahim, well known from A Prophet, and Chinese model and actor Corinne Yam are starring in this romantic drama with strong erotic vibes. Director Lou Ye has been a subject of frequent controversy in China - his 2006 film Summer Palace led to authorities forbidding him to make films for five years - and Love and Bruises represents another edgy project for him, as it was adapted from a novel by Jie Liu-falin, banned by Chinese censors. Double DocuMonday: Paroubeks + Hájek at the Castle, Petr in the House

The Documentary Mondays cycle will feature two documentaries on Monday April 2nd. First, Apolena Rychlíková will introduce her film Hajek at the Castle, Petr in the House, portraying the head of the Czech presidential office, Mr Petr Hájek. Jan Látal will then introduce his film Paroubeks, searching for the reasons why Jiří Paroubek has acquired such a negative image in the media. A discussion with filmmakers will follow the screenings. Cinema Studies

Kino Světozor is launching another run of the educational course Cinema Studies. The first lesson out of 10 will start on March 27, the last one will take place on June 12, 2012. For ten Tuesday nights, participants of the course will have a chance to learn about various aspects of film making, its production & distribution, including eg. methods of film criticism.
