Mozartballs
(Mozartballs) Director: Larry Weinstein, KAN, 2006, original version / English & Czech subtitles, 55 min
Mozartballs is an unusual tribute to the composer from acclaimed director Larry Weinstein, interweaving the stories of wildly divergent and almost unbeliveable characters to show how profoundly Mozart can touch our lives. These include a programmer of software designed to "compose" music in the style of the master, a schoolteacher saved from suicide by Mozart's voice, a lesbian couple who feel that they are the incarnation of Mozart and his lover, the first Austrian in space - and the workers of the factory where Mozartkugeln are manufactured. These chocolate balls become a sort of recurring leitmotif of "Mozart as icon" throughout the film, which presents these stories of obsession with an impartial neutrality and genuine kindness.
