The Ninth Day
(Der Neunte Tag) Director: Volker Schlöndorff, NĚM - LUC, 2004, German version / Czech subtitles, 98 min
The film is a loose adaptation of Jean Bernard’s prison diaries from the Second World War. Bernard was one of the many prisoners in the Dachau concentration camp. As a result of some special operation in January 1942 he gets a 9 day leave… Volker Schlöndorff has already celebrated tremendous success with the allegedly un-filmable Tin Drum (1979).
