Ultimum Refugium
(Ultimum Refugium) Director: Ondřej Vavrečka, CZ, 2011, Czech version, 138 min
Ultimum Refugium = the last refuge. The ultimate home of humans. A habitat, place or a gesture which provides a shelter from adversity. This is our situation in the world, here. The film is about the end of old-Slavonic literature, about not hitting the dead end when, come election day, we have no one we want to elect, and about finding out whether the electronic cigarette means the end of regular smoking. The film tells what the end of our national currency would mean and when the end of the dinosaurs comes. We will also see a stove in Bratislava which counts the time till the end of the civilization, then the end of the world on May 21, 2011, a long state funeral in Poland as well as the sinking Europe, we'll learn how the life of the great Chinese poet Li-Po ended, when the albinos will be wiped-out, what birds think about death, an aging grandmother, and so on and so forth. Even though life/film keeps going on irrevocably, the point for us is to look for connections that might eventually evolve into an action. Then there will be both white and red, five liters each.
The director of the film Ondřej Vavrečka, will make a personal appearance at the screening!
