Green Fish

Having just been discharged from the millitary, Mak-dong is on the way home to meet his family again. On the train he meets a beautiful girl, Mi-ae, but after they arrive, he looses her. Back home, while looking for work in an alienated neighborhood of Seoul, Mak-dong again sees Mi-ae. This time, singing in a nightclub. He finds out she´s the girlfriend of a gang boss Bae Tae-gon, through whom she finds Mak-dong a job. While working at a parking lot, Mak-dong gets his first ‚break‘ and a chance to prove himself. Mak-dong is admitted as a fullfledged member of the gang.
Lee Chang-dong graduated from Kyoungbuk University with a degree in Korean language and literature. He worked as a writer and scriptwriter and was a minister of culture in Korea. His first feature Green Fish from 1997 was awarded at Vancouver Film festival. His next title Peppermint Candy (1999) was screened at Cannes and received main awards at Karlovy Vary Film festival. His last fetaure film was premiered in 2002 during the Venice Film Festival and again received several prizes.
