The Assault

This film is based on the true story of the 24 December 1994 hijacking of Air France Flight 8969, and the seemingly tragic destiny of its 227 passengers. After hours of tireless negotiations the plane was granted permission to leave only to head to Marseille for refueling. Mindfully avoiding politics and emphasizing only the events themselves, "The Assault" weaves together the violent and claustrophobic onboard drama, with back stories of the tough GIGN officer and father Thierry, the determined jihadist from the slums of Algiers, and an overly ambitious French Interior Ministry worker.

Quatre terroristes du GIA prennent en otage à Alger l’Airbus A-300 d’Air France, reliant la capitale algérienne à Paris, et les 227 personnes présentes à bord. Personne ne connaît leurs intentions : ils sont armés et apparaissent extrêmement déterminés. Nous sommes le lundi 26 décembre 1994, il est 3h33 du matin, quand l’Airbus atterrit à Marseille-Marignane. Trois personnages, Thierry, un soldat du GIGN, Carole Jeanton, une technocrate ambitieuse, et Yahia Abdallah, un Djihadiste déterminé, sont au cœur de l’événement. Leurs logiques vont s’affronter jusqu’au dénouement final.
