Tilt
(Tilt) Director: Viktor Chouchkov, Jr., BG, 2010, original version / Czech subtitles, 94 min
In the last years of communism, four friends living in Sofia earn their living on the black market and dream of their own American style bar. The arrival of a femme fatale and the fall of the Berlin Wall disrupt the relationships among the friends and three of them leave for work in Germany led by the expectation of better earnings. In the meantime, Bulgaria becomes the Wild East where, for the right people, money is literally lying on the streets. Compared to the sweet recollections of communism presented by the Czech directors, the Bulgarian genre-based story delivers a sharp contrast of dreams and ideals to the new era hang-over.
