(Snap) Director: Carmel Winters, IRL, 2010, English version / Czech subtitles, 86 min
While Sandra is telling her life story to a group of documentarists, the film immerses itself into the not-so-distant past when Sandra’s fifteen-year-old son Stephan was all over the tabloids. He had snatched a toddler from the park and held him captive in his grandfather’s house for five days. It was unclear why he did it, or what he was planning to do with the child. In a series of flashbacks, both stories eventually intertwine, and the individual pieces of the mozaic of Sandra and Stephan’s lives fall into place, forming a picture of the chilling reality. Carmela Winters‘ film debut is a mesmerizing psychological drama, which is filled with an omnipresent feeling of secrecy and analyzes both the role of the media and the dark side within each of us.
