You Don't Like the Truth - 4 Days inside Guantanamo
(You Don't Like the Truth - 4 Days inside Guantanamo) Director: L. Coté - P. Henriquez, CDN, 2010, English version / Czech subtitles, 100 min
Canadian Omar Khadr was a quiet but quick-witted guy. He didn't stand out among his friends, was a bookworm, and never resisted his parents' will, even when his father said he was taking him to Afghanistan. There his dad joined up with the Taliban, leaving Omar in a Taliban camp. In 2002, that camp was attacked by US special forces. Omar survived the shootout and was taken, seriously injured, to a military base in Baghram. After interrogation he was taken to Guantanamo Bay, becoming - at 15 - the only child prisoner at the US facility in Cuba. In February 2003 Omar met investigators from the Canadian secret services during the four-day interrogation mapped in this documentary. Edited security camera shots uncover a psychological game that the prey is always destined to lose. Along with the viewer, this uneven dialogue is watched by journalists, defence attorneys, former fellow prisoners, Afghan veterans and psychologists. Their comments provide a reflection on the unhappy story of a person who circumstances have turned into a war criminal.
