Musical Express

It so happens that the style and execution of short films often defy genres, and every now and then it seems the story has been dreamed up by someone in a dire need of therapy. The seven musicals in this section are nothing like Singin’ in the Rain or, for that matter, anything you are likely to see in a multiplex. Romantic love and sporadic dancing do make an appearance, but the spotlight generally belongs to unbridled fun – even though the films take place at funerals, during national conflicts, in attacks of evil forces on unsuspecting campers and in the midst of a dentistry course. The world is not perfect, but with great music anything is possible, or at least more enjoyable.
