Ponyo

In his recent personal project, master animator Hayao Miyazaki unleashes a bonfire of imagination. Ponyo is his most free-minded film in that it focuses primarily on fantasy and leaves the story aside. Charming adventures unbound by rationality sweep the screen as a boy meets a playful creature from the Sea Kingdom. In a time when animated films from the West delve into the artificiality of 3D animation, Studio Ghibli once again proves that when handled properly the traditional “flat” animation achieves an unparalleled dimension.
