(Murder) Director: Andreas Johnsen , DK, 2009, original version / English and Czech subtitles, 60 min

In the Central American country of Nicaragua, abortions in the event of a threat to the mother's life were banned in 2006. The current Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega backed the law, which carries a six-year jail term if it is broken. He did this in exchange for support from the Catholic Church during an election campaign. The Church, which advocates conservative values and rejects any sexual enlightenment, has a major influence on society in the American continent's second poorest country. Women who decide to have an illegal abortion experience feelings of guilt and shame, despite the fact that they have often been impregnated as a result of rape. In the surgery of a gynaecologist called Eva, who carries out illegal abortions, we encounter women suffering from cancer and young girls who have been interfered with by a member of their own family. The film reveals the powerlessness of women's rights activists in a land ruled by bigoted Church dignitaries and corrupt politicians.
