(Nitaboh / Nitaboh - Unauthorized Biography of the Father of Tsugaru Shamisen) Director: Akio Nishizawa, JAP, 2004, original version / Czech sub-subtitles, 100 min
The story of Nitaboh, creator of Tsugaru Shamisen (a traditional Japanese musical instrument and its unique performance style) told through animation. Nitaboh was born into a poor family in the rural province of Aoromi, located in the northern tip of Japan's main island. His mother died soon after his birth, and he lost his eyesight when he was 8 years old. Misfortune continued to befall him throughout his young life. His father's death made Nitaboh an orphan at the age of 11. In spite of his plight, he decided to seek a career playing the traditional shamisen. Nitaboh set off in pursuit of his own shamisen training and performances. As a result, he rose above himself and developed a unique performance style which endures until today.
