(Kruh – Portrét demonstrace) Director: Tereza Reichová, ČR, 2009, Czech version, 65 min

A demonstration of the Workers´ Party (DS) took place in Litvínov on November 17, 2008. It was followed by a march of Autonomous Nationalists to the neighborhood of Janov, mainly inhabited by Romanies. At a traffic roundabout near the neighborhood, a battle between police and demonstrators ensued. Referred to by the media as “The Battle of Janov”, this event influenced history, because many locals had joined the far right demonstration.

The author who was on the scene with her camera, invited a few participants to the roundabout a few months later, and confronted them with shots from the event. On one side of the roundabout were participants of the Workers Party; on the other side participants of the Romany anti-demonstration; representatives of town hall and police and also creators of the medial picture of the demonstration. The name CIRCLE refers to the place of the battle, to historical context and also to the complexity of the whole problem.

The filmmakers will make a personal appearance at the screening! A discussion will follow.
