Luka is building a railroad, celebrating life, and not caring about the upcoming war. But the war takes away his son and brings him Sabaha, a Muslim woman, as a hostage. Before the exchange for his son takes place, Luka turns into Romeo and Sabaha into Juliet...

With this film, Kusturica returned to the issue of war which he had already used in Underground. Although he is a great humanist, he had been accused of treating violence in Underground in an overly easy-going manner. Kusturica proclaimed that he would never shoot another film again, but changed his mind.

Life is a Miracle is a film that handles war from a different perspective. It focuses on an ordinary man, his need to live and love even his enemies. The film is again a grand and chaotic show with vigorous rhythms.
