Pray the Devil Back to Hell

An unusual story about the great courage of Muslim and Christian women in Liberia who, regardless of faith, decide to work together to end the country's bloody civil war and bring peace back to a country in ruins. Director Gini Reticker employs a tapestry of personal testimonies from women of different religions and professions to describe the historical events which led to the conclusion of the conflict. A 14-year civil war that saw hundreds of thousands killed, massacres of the civilian population and widespread rape was brought to an end by women who forced the warring sides not only to sit at the negotiating table, but also to reach a peace agreement. Through long-term non-violence supported by emphatic protests and co-operation, women from different backgrounds demonstrated persuasively that spontaneous activism can change the history of a nation.
