The End of Czechoslovakia as Seen from the Parliament
(Zánik Československa v parlamentu) Director: Pavel Koutecký, CZ, 1993, original version / Czech and English subtitles, 75 min
Three years after the Velvet Revolution, Czechoslovakia surprised the world with an apparently sudden and for the region unusually peaceful break-up. On the Czech side of the border, in particular, the predominant feeling among the population was that the politicians had broken up the country. This film captures the atmosphere of the Czechoslovak parliament as 1992 drew to a close. Director Pavel Koutecký stylishly built on the legacy of Karel Vachek, who had followed political events in 1968. A very analytical political documentary on the demise of Czechoslovakia entitled The End of Czechoslovakia as Seen from the Parliament will also be shown during the 11th One World festival.
