A new film by Peter Greenaway about the life and work of Rembrandt van Rijn, one of the most important painters of our history. In 1642, Rembrandt is at the peek of his fame, but his wife Saskia is slowly dying. The painter reluctantly agrees to paint a group portrait of Amsterdam militia members – his most famous painting, The Night Watch. When Rambrandt discovers a murder conspiracy, he uses the painting to expose the killer. The members of Dutch Society set out to destroy him and ruin his reputation. Director Greenaway gives us a rich portrait of the Golden Age as well as the intrigue and plotting of a conspiracy film.
