Tobruk

In 1941 the strategic port Tobruk is surrounded from all sides by German and Italian army. Its defense seems to be never ending and thus also pointless. Also the eleventh eastern battalion of the Czechoslovak army were in this situation of doubts, boredom and the imminent danger of death. They have left the relative ease of a training camp to find themselves under deafening attacks of ... grenades, in the burned trenches of a little fort and to see their friends die. The film about the cutting edge of bravery and cowardice done by Václav Marhoul stresses the everyday life of the soldiers, which he shot in an almost documentary style, brilliantly escaping the pathos of what are without doubts heroic deeds.
