The Fresh Selection - The Promising Five

The films which the Fresh Film Fest programmers selected for this year’s “Fresh Selection – The Promising Five” at the 43rd Karlovy Vary IFF are examples of the work of students who are aware that – in the words of director Evald Schorm – it’s not how you do it but what you do.

Our selection includes two winners from last year’s Fresh Film Fest, the film Lilli by Finnish director Oliwie Tonteri, produced by the UIAH film school in Helsinki, and the film Milk Teeth by Hungarian director Tibor Banoczki, produced by the NFTS in Beaconsfield, UK. Both films, like Ian Mackinnon’s film Adjustment, were screened at a number of important film festivals, including Annecy and Clermont-Ferrand, and garnered various awards. The Czech Republic is represented by multi award-winning graduate of FAMU’s animation department Miloš Tomić, who will be presenting his latest film Plastic Bags (Tašky). The Brazilian-Argentine film Invitation to Dine with Comrade Stalin (Convite para jantar com o camarada Stalin) by Ricardo Alves Júnior and Gianfranco Rolando will be previewed at the KVIFF and will appear on the programme for the 5th edition of the Fresh Film Fest, taking place in Karlovy Vary from 27 to 31 August.
