Jack O’Brien, with his versatile directorial experience – from the Broadway musical Hairspray to Shakespeare’s Henry IV to numerous opera productions – is the ideal artist to capture the wide range of emotions and dramatic situations that drive the three one-act operas of Puccini’s Il Trittico. He and his entire creative team are making their Met debuts, bringing fresh theatrical instincts and a huge palette of visual influences to a triple bill that begins in familiar Puccini territory – passion, jealousy, revenge – and ends with the master’s one and only comedy.
