Doo Wop

Doo Wop

(Doo Wop) Director: David Lanzmann, FRA, 2004, French version / Czech subtitles, 90 min

A summer day in Paris. Ziggy wakes up and starts his day as always, in a neighbourhood bistro: a real Parisian type with a hat and cigarette usually hanging from the corner of his mouth. Then he sets off to see a friend who sells old books by the Seine, he meets other friends in the kitchen of the local restaurant, bumps into his ex-girlfriend who left him some time ago, and meets a new girl, Maja, a singer working as a bartender. He likes to imagine himself as a music producer and manager of a band who’ll one day play at Olympia - but this is just a dream. In reality, the group only plays from time to time in dingy little clubs and Ziggy himself just tries to get by. In fact, he owes money and has to hide from his creditors... One of the best Paris films since Godard’s Breathless, with Michael Fitoussi (Ziggy) as a contemporary version of Jean Paul Belmondo and the city of Paris as the second protagonist.
