Like Little Boys
() Director: Alexandr Vojta, ČR, 2008, Czech version / English subtitles, 55 min
Petr Vacek´s and Petr Alexander´s band "XXL" has not been well known by a wider audience. Ambitious guitarist and composer Petr Vacek founded the band to break through with his own version of blues, folk and rock. But the expected breakthrough into the Czech music mainstream never came and the band have been wandering around minor pubs and clubs for years. Rivalry and tensions within the band increased, and the members started to face the feeling of opportunities never fulfilled; that was the ground zero for the blame...and provides the action for the film.
"Like Little Boys" is a documentary by director Alexandr Vojta, filmed between 2000 and 2006. The original idea was to make a musical documentary about a bunch of friends who enjoy music. The situation changed rapidly during the process of film making. The front man and his friend decided to get rid off one of the members. This switched the musical documentary into a sociological and psychological study, where the cold eye of the camera records all the personal storms without mercy.
The length of the documentary expanded as facts of life injected and made the film more complex and interwoven. Facts that were crucial to the development and life changing for the film´s protagonists. The director just observes, and records, the power comes from the conflict of the story itself, without undue devices placed by Vojta. The events dominate the film and you can feel that Vojta himself, is just carried along in the churning wave of these events....
The screening with the personnel presence of the author and the some members of the band.
