Rainbow’s End
(Rainbow’s End) Director: Jochen Hick, Christian Jentzsch, NĚM, 2006, German / Czech subtitles, 75 min
A timely exploration of the situation for lesbians, gay men and transgender people in Europe. Big cities like London, Paris or Berlin may feel like gay paradise, but across Europe and beyond there are many instances of forces of reaction on the rise. The film shows a gay couple in Amsterdam who suffers constant harassment from young Muslims when they leave their flat. A British man is featured attempting to help a Belarusian man who is facing deportation. There are horrifying scenes from Poland where the state is intent on preventing gay pride marches. Even a UN lobbying session reveals a high level of casual homophobia.
