Time to Go
(Zeit zu Gehen) Director: Anita Natmeßnig, RAK, 2006, german / english and czech sub, 95 min
Time to Go is a documentary about the greatest taboo of these days: dying. The film shows how six fatally ill people suffering from cancer spend the last months, weeks and days of their lives in a Vienna hospice, a ward for 12 patients, where dying is accepted as a natural part of life. Those, who are dying, are thus made visible and audible and it is getting clear: when facing death, life takes centre stage. It’s not about clinging, but letting go, not about being faster and stronger, but getting weaker – taboos in our on efficiency and productivity focused society. Dying is shown with due respect and consent of all concerned. Dying not as a sensation, but as part of everyday life - and as a secret, a mystic transition. The answer, where this transition is to end, is to be found in the content of the film Time to Go. And even at the end of life an authentic Viennese like Mr. Moser or Mrs. Reisinger maintains their humour.
